Issue

  • The ignition of my gas hob keeps sparking during cooking
  • All the burners on my hob ignite when I press one knob
  • Stuck ignition or clicking noise on the gas hob
  • The spark ignition of my gas hob keeps ticking/clicking
  • Electric spark ignition gives a short circuit after water boils over
  • Why is my gas hob sparking constantly?

Applies to

  • gas cooktop

Solution

When any knob on the gas hob is pressed, all the burners will spark. When the burner is lit, and the knob is released the sparking will stop. This is the normal operation of a gas hob

If the sparking continues after releasing the knob, check the following:

  • If the hob has become wet due to water boiling over isolate the power from the cooktop.
  • Wait for the hob to cool down or take care if it is still hot, then dry the hob around the ignition spark plug and burners as much as possible, reconnect the power to check if the sparking has stopped.
  • Check that the knob has not been accidentally left pressed down by removing the knob from the hob and refitting.
  • The rubber seals can become greasy causing the knobs to stick to the rubber. Remove the knobs and rubber seals then carefully clean. Replace the rubber seals, and knobs, then check that the ignition returns to normal operation.

If the issue persists, please contact our Customer Care Team.

If the hob continues to spark or tick, the power can be isolated, and the hob can still be used by lighting the burners with a match or cooktop lighter.

In this case turn the control knob to the maximum gas supply position and push it down. Light the gas and keep the control knob pushed for at least 5 seconds to let the flame safeguard sensor warm up.
